‘Calling’ all BT customers

British Telecom has long had digitalisation in its sights, and is now rolling out its ‘Digital Voice’ initiative to all customers.

At a base level, this means replacing the old copper network and land line phone system with a broadband-based system. It is their new ‘Smart’ network that integrates all the technologies in the home into one digital offering, that can be checked and changed on your mobile phone. This is free of charge and BT aims to have completed the digitalisation of all its services by 2025.

For those who have a monitored alarm that is connected to your landline, this does require some action to ensure you do not go unprotected. Most monitoring and security companies will be aware of Digital Voice, but you will need to check with your existing provider that the monitoring system will still work once you have migrated. Either way, they should be able to help you set up your monitored alarm system with the new digitalisation or refer you on if for any reason this is not possible.

The good news is that with digitalisation it is a lot easier to get a monitored alarm system if you did not previously have one. These are particularly useful for people who are frequently out of their house, have vacant properties (such as AirBnBs) or live in cities/high-crime areas. We offer an alarm system that is monitored at a twenty-four hour dedicated centre, alongside a keyholding service. This service means we provide immediate response whenever your alarm is activated. We will investigate, rectify and secure your property as needed – all without disturbing you. Our aim is to give complete peace of mind to customers while they’re in and out of their property.

If you have questions about your alarm system in relation to the new BT Digital Voice initiative, we’ll be happy to help. Contact us for more information, or to find out more about our intruder alarms or keyholding services.
