At Gough & Kelly, one of the North’s leading security providers, we’re offering an exciting opportunity for a motivated placement student to join our busy finance team at our Leeds HQ as an Accounts Assistant. This is a fantastic chance to apply your university learning in a professional environment, develop new skills, and gain valuable experience in a fast-paced finance department.

The placement:

  • Full-time, 37.5 hours per week
  • Fixed-term (12 months) placement year opportunity

What you’ll be doing:

As an Accounts Assistant, you’ll support the team in ensuring our finance operations run smoothly and efficiently. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Monitoring the accounts inbox and assisting with queries
  • Helping prepare and process weekly BACS payments
  • Assisting with supplier invoices and billing
  • Posting daily bank transactions and supporting bank reconciliations
  • Processing purchase ledger invoices using Lightyear and Sage
  • Reconciling supplier statements and ledgers
  • Supporting the management of credit card transactions and petty cash records
  • Providing excellent customer service via phone and email
  • Assisting the team with wider finance tasks, including month-end deadlines

What we’re looking for:

We’re not expecting lots of prior experience – this is a placement designed to help you learn and grow. What matters most is your enthusiasm and willingness to get stuck in. Ideally, you’ll bring:

  • Current study in a finance or accounting-related degree (seeking a placement year)
  • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
  • Strong attention to detail and organisational skills
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • A proactive, positive attitude and willingness to learn
  • Ability to work as part of a team
