Battle of the superheroes for Martin House Childrens Hospice

We took on the mighty Leeds Dragon Boat challenge at Roundhay Park for another year, upping the ante for 2023 with two teams competing against each other for glory (dressed as superheroes, of course).

Our GK Superheroes took part in the challenge to raise vital funds for our charity partner, Martin House Children’s Hospice. The Boston Spa-based charity provides support and care for children and young adults with life-limiting illnesses, and their families. This is our second year supporting this incredible cause, and through our Dragon Boat support, we have raised £1,500 towards our £10,000 target.

Before the race, Group Commercial Director, Matt Baker, was on hand to get the teams ready with a dedicated WhatsApp group filled with motivational messages. There were also past competitors of the event on hand to talk the 22 GK Superheroes through what to expect on the day.

Both superhero teams put in a stellar effort, making it into the final boat races and tug-of-war semi-finals. Team one came 7th out of 45 competing teams. We are very proud of our GK Superheroes!

Ian Crawford says: “It was wonderful to see so many enthusiastic staff come together for this amazing charity. A bit of healthy competition with a worthy cause, really brought out the team’s inner athletes! We’re all very proud of their efforts. Gough & Kelly will be matching what our superheroes have raised, bringing the total to £3,000”.
