Gough & Kelly have long had an affiliation with veterans and reservists as core members of our security team. So, we were delighted to be able to give back more to the community and our amazing ex-service staff by purchasing each of them a Victoria Cross Trust Poppy.
The Victoria Cross Poppy donations go towards cleaning and restoring the graves of perhaps forgotten heroes who earned the prestigious Victoria Cross through acts of extreme bravery. Sadly, over time, these sites can become dilapidated and need serious care to return them to a standard that befits the heroes below. The Victoria Cross Trust is dedicated to the upkeep of the graves and the memory of Victoria Cross Recipients. By purchasing and wearing the poppies, the Victoria Cross and the incredible recipient’s memory lives on.
It was wonderful to then see our contribution in action. The VCT were able to care for the graves of Butler VC and Poulter VC that are located near our premises in Leeds. We feel privileged and excited to work with the veteran team on future grave care projects in York and the surrounding area.
Keith Lumley, VCT, said: “A huge thank you to Gough and Kelly who today purchased our Victoria Cross Trust Poppy for each member of staff many of whom are military veterans. A fantastic gesture from GK who clearly support their workforce and care for their well-being. Not only does this provide financial support to aid our program of grave care it also ensures that the VC and its recipients are remembered. With 200 more poppies displayed by professionals committed to public safety the VC and its memory lives on.”
GK operations director Ian Crawford added: “It was great to support this amazing programme, and we very much look forward to working with the veterans, ensuring graves of heroes are cared for.”
Gough & Kelly have recently earned a Bronze Employer Recognition Scheme Award – a public thank you and honour bestowed by the Ministry of Defence for our support of army service reservists and veterans. We know that they bring a variety of transferable skills and qualities, developed through their military careers, to the civilian workforce and welcome them to our team.Return to the News page
