Gough & Kelly

Jade Ogbonson

Human Resources Advisor Jade joined Gough & Kelly as an administration apprentice in 2013. We talk to her about how her role has developed as the company has grown.

How and when did you join Gough & Kelly?

I joined Gough & Kelly nine years ago, looking for a stable career. I had studied business at school and college and so the business administration apprentice role really appealed to me. I also read an article at the time that stated that the best job for my star sign was human resources… it was right!

How has your career developed?

My apprenticeship was a year long, during which I was responsible for assisting with the administration of screening and vetting of new staff. After that, I became a HR co-ordinator, which allowed me to practise the skills I had learnt and develop my expertise in the field of human resources. I was able to do further training whilst in my position and I completed my CIPD levels three and five. In April this year, I was promoted to HR Advisor.

Tell us about a typical day at Gough & Kelly

Every day is different! I normally get in and check my messages/emails and look over my daily tasks. I am usually busy with meetings during the day, which mostly involve managing staff queries. I still do a lot of screening and vetting of new staff for the company and do the inductions for new starters.

We have recently brought in a new benefits package for Gough & Kelly staff, so I also inform staff and implement these across the business.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The people; I love engaging with people and helping to solve problems, which is lucky since it is a large part of my job. The people at Gough & Kelly are extra special, as there is a real comradery – almost like a family. I have seen how the business has grown from small and family owned to where we are now, but even with that growth that close-knit feeling has remained.

I also enjoy that no day is the same, I don’t think I will ever get bored.
