Gough and Kelly have long had an affiliation with the armed forces and veterans and have the utmost respect for the sacrifices of their members. We also recognise the transferable skills developed through their military careers, that they then bring to civilian work.

Currently, we hold the Silver Employer Recognition award from the Ministry of Defence, awarded in 2022. To hold this award, a company must demonstrate their commitment to current and ex-servicemen by pledging to acknowledge and understand those who serve or who have served in the armed forces.

We are incredibly proud to have six veterans in employment with us, who bring vast experience to their security roles and great assistance to their colleagues. One such employee is Raymond Harrison, who is the security officer at Hazel Court Eco Depot. Ray has applied his extensive knowledge from a distinguished career in the armed forces to his role here and we are grateful he is part of our team. Read about his Gough & Kelly journey here.

Gough and Kelly policies have been written to make sure they treat ex-servicemen and their families fairly and respectfully. We actively encourage staff to become reservists or cadet volunteers and offer additional assistance to employees that do so. We also allow servicemen to have short notice leave and extra holidays for their armed forces commitments.

Gough and Kelly’s commitment to Ex-Servicemen

It is important to us to also support the veteran community, outside of the workplace. Last year, we contributed funds to the Victoria Cross Trust for the cleaning and restoring of the graves of soldiers who earned the prestigious Victoria Cross through acts of extreme bravery. The VCT were able to care for the graves of Butler VC and Poulter VC which are located near our premises in Leeds.

We will continue to support our ex-servicemen and any future veterans that wish to join our team and that moving forward we will further strengthen our commitment to the armed forces.
